Air Force flight name tags
Most Air Force flight suits now wear embroidered tags, but the leather tag lives on: on the A-2 jacket, for heritage events, and as the classic gift for a new pilot.

What goes on each line
| Where | What | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Line 1 | Call sign or first name, then last name (enlisted: rank first) | "SPARK" CALDWELL, MSGT "BAT" MASTERSON |
| Line 2 | Rank and service (USAF, USAFR, ANG) or squadron, centered | CAPT USAF, MAJ ANG |
Everything is engraved in capitals. Use your branch's rank abbreviations, with or without periods; we engrave exactly what you type.
What the uniform manuals say, and what people wear
The Air Force dress instruction (DAFI 36-2903, 29 February 2024 edition) describes the A-2 jacket tag in paras 9.4.3 and 9.5.2.2: 2 x 4 inches, brown or black leather or simulated leather, embossed with silver wings, first and last name, rank and USAF. Flight suit name tags under para 9.4.3 are cloth, which is why the leather tag now lives mostly on the A-2.
Call signs are authorized on flight duty uniform name tags under para 9.4.3.2, as changed by guidance memorandum DAFGM 2026-02. Officers may use the call sign or first name, then last name: "SPARK" CALDWELL. Enlisted tags put the rank first, then the call sign and last name: MSGT "BAT" MASTERSON. The builder does both: type your call sign and it takes the place of your first name, and an enlisted rank moves to the front of the name line on its own.
Layouts
Two centered lines is the classic Air Force tag. Four boxes and name-on-top also work and are available.

Colors
Silver on black or silver on brown matches silver Air Force wings. Gold is available if you want it.
Wings
Pilot, Senior Pilot and Command Pilot wings, plus Officer Aircrew, Enlisted Aircrew and Flight Surgeon. The wing art is drawn from the official insignia and engraved at the same size on every tag, about two-thirds of the tag width, like the tags we measured.
Questions
Can I put my call sign on an Air Force name tag?
Yes. Type it in the call sign box and it replaces your first name, in quotes: "SPARK" CALDWELL. Enter an enlisted rank and the builder moves it to the front, MSGT "BAT" MASTERSON, as DAFI 36-2903 para 9.4.3.2 sets out.
Which wings do I pick: Pilot, Senior Pilot or Command Pilot?
Pick the rating you hold: Pilot, Senior Pilot (a star above the shield) or Command Pilot (a star inside a wreath).
